What Is a Floating Bedside Cabinet? How Is It Different from a Regular Bedside Cabinet?

A floating bedside cabinet,  also known as a wall-mounted bedside table or wall-hung nightstand, is a storage unit that attaches directly to the wall rather than sitting on the floor. How to Build and Install a Bedside Cabinet?

The Ashlan Collection has been designed with home installation firmly in mind. While we always recommend that installation is carried out by a competent DIYer or a professional, the process is straightforward and can typically be completed in under an hour.

Before you begin, gather the tools you will need: a spirit level, a pencil, a drill, wall plugs appropriate for your wall type (stud, plasterboard, or solid masonry), a screwdriver, and a tape measure. Always check behind your walls for pipes and cables before drilling.

Start by deciding on the ideal height for your cabinet. A good rule of thumb is to position the top surface of the cabinet level with - or very slightly above - the top of your mattress. This makes it easy to reach your phone, a glass of water, or your bedtime reading without straining. Once you have your ideal height, use a pencil and spirit level to mark the precise position of your wall bracket on the wall.

Drill the holes at your marked points, insert your wall plugs, and fix the bracket to the wall using the provided screws. Once secure, the Ashlan cabinet slides or clips onto the bracket cleanly and securely, with concealed fixings ensuring that the wall-mounted mechanism remains completely hidden from view. The result is a cabinet that looks as though it has always been part of the room - effortlessly integrated into the wall itself.
